Shaelyn's Fab Website
I learned a lot in the past week or two. Some really shocking things that I was so oblivious to before about what aboriginal people have gone through and still are going through. We live such easy going lives especially compared to what a lot of other people not far have to go through. One thing that really stood out to me was learning about residential schools. It's unbelievable some of the things that went on in them, I can't even process it. The amounts of physical, sexual, and verbal abuse that went on is sickening. Child labor was very common because of how poorly the schools were funded. The last school was demolished in 1996. Think about how recent that it. There are still many awful things that still go on today. Aboriginals don't have enough clean water in some situations and the Government prioritizes the wealthier people still. It's insane the society we live in. It's truly unfair what the aboriginals must go through, but it is improving. A while ago it was a lot more terrible than it is now, but it's still currently not enough. We must continue giving them more fair rights and treating them better because they are people too. I hope one day that they will be treated with as much respect and fairness as everybody else.

Good job Shaelyn! When reading your blog post I definitely agreed with all your points, especially about how we, Canadian citizens, are so oblivious to how First Nations are being treated from all the way back in time until today, though conditions have become less severe. I really liked how you started with your main point and gave many other points to support your main point. I also really liked how you gave a final point at the end to finish your blog off, by "giving them more fair rights...". What would you do to help Aboriginal people? As a suggestion, the only thing I have to say is that to clarify what your blog will be about in your title, so many will be able to know what your post will be about. But in other words, amazing blog! - Cathy :)

Shaelyn, I really enjoyed how you put your own personal opinion in this post. I felt similarly about residential schools too. I was also surprised at how recent residential schools were still active. I presume though that these schools were run better than the schools in the past. Instead of residential schools, how do you believe that the First Nations teens and children today should be educated? A lot of Aboriginal youth are suffering problems right now in the current education system. For your next post, try to combine sentences to make them less choppy; this would make it flow much better. By the way, I used the same website for my research on the Indian Act. :) This statute gave the government power over Aboriginal affairs and allowed residential schools to be enacted. What is your opinion on this act? What should we do with it in the future?
